As of July 1, 2019, Prestashop version 1.6 maintenance is now over for good!
If you haven't already done so, it's high time you migrated to version 1.7, which offers e-tailers and users the following benefits major functional evolutions.
Mobile first
With version 1.7.5 (to be launched in early 2019), Prestashop is clearly stepping up its pace on the market. mobile. This is a major development. In concrete terms, it means a more intuitive interfacedesigned for mobile browsing. Consultation is more fluid and comfortable for users.
UX (user experience) is at the heart of every developer's thinking. More than 2/3 of Internet users leave a site because of a poor user experience (poor ergonomics, lack of reassurance, site design, lack of contact information...); and don't hesitate to share their observations on social networks.
The stakes for e-tailers are high. Over the past three years, m-commerce has grown exponentially. In France, at the end of 2018, it represented 22 billion euros (source FEVAD). That's almost 25 % of e-commerce sales.
Optimized SEO
The second major development concerns natural referencing for e-commerce stores made with Prestashop version 1.7.5.
In concrete terms, page loading time has been greatly improved. In some cases, up to 10 times. This translates into greater reactivity, more fluidity and therefore more conversions!
It's the central element of the user experience. It has been shown that beyond three seconds of loading time, the conversion rate drops by 7 %, and the number of page views by 11 %.
The main SEO optimizations concern the " categories ", " brands & suppliers "and " contents ". More in line with the way search engines work, this update should improve the referencing of e-commerce stores.
Back office
On the administration side, the main changes are as follows:
- A simplified and more precise nomenclature for a better better organization of modules.
- Modifications in just a few clicks specific product prices. This facilitates the implementation of promotional operations throughout the year.
- The ability to enter a hint on customer order pages to quickly find the correct exact physical location of products in storage areas (aisles, shelves, warehouses...). This saves time in order preparation and processing.
- Product preview on Google. Ability to see how product meta tags are displayed.
Customer relations
Since the launch of version 1.7.5, the Prestashop teams have been hard at work.
With a perfected translation system for multilingual sites, price display adapted to the customer's language, a new design for transactional e-mails, an optimized customer reviews module, and the addition of Rich Snippets, version 1.7.6, launched in the middle of the summer, focuses above all on the customer relations and sales internalization.
We'll be coming back to the new features of version 1.7.6 in more detail over the coming months.
